I have something so important to share with you today that I am not even going to search for cheapies. Today ALL books in this post were free when I posted them. Of course, double check the price before you click purchase.
Typhoon Yolanda known internationally as Haiyan left families destitute, children orphans, wives widows... all a few days before Christmas 2013.
On October 15, 2013, The Visayan Islands suffered a 7.2 cataclysmic earthquake that toppled 400 year old structures, emptied a six story full to capacity hospital, collapsed bridges and roads, and left millions without a place to live. Since then, there have been more than 3,000 aftershocks, and the ground still shakes today more than two months later. Just before Christmas, Typhoon Yolanda #Haiyan, swept through the barren land at 265 miles per hour in some areas. Over 9 million people were left without shelter. The most shocking photo came from my sister in law- it is a pile of semi trucks and a barge in the middle of the island. People are actually living in this 'structure' since there is nowhere else for them to lay their head.
Now the government is requiring the schools to begin business as usual no later than January 15, 2014. The houses floated away, people were washed to sea, and food and water shortages caused riots and looting just a few days ago, but these same people must send their children back to school January 15? For those of you who don't know, parents must supply all of the children's necessities, including paper, pencils, etc. for their children. Not only that, but public school costs money in the Philippines. There is no such thing as a free education! I can only begin to imagine how desperate these parents must be for their children's well being.
Team Expansion missionaries Mike and Jeanette Propp along with several volunteers through Village of Hope are spreading hope to those who lost so much. With your help, we can provide a backpack full of the supplies each student needs to finish the school year for only $11.00 per backpack! I can personally vouch for these people and their organization. Mike and Jean gave up the opportunity to live in a nice home in the United States to live in a school office so that they could help where they are needed. 100% of tax deductible donations will go directly to Team Expansion for this mission. Donate at http://www.teamexpansion.org/philippines Put Philippines Backpack Project in the comments field.
Invite your friends to join us in blessing a child. Get creative. Do you know someone who works for a backpack company? Someone who made too many pencils with their company logo on them and they want to get rid of them? Anything helps. Other than financial donation drop off locations are in Riverside, CA, and Hesperia, CA.
Please invite at least ten friends. If you invite ten friends and they invite ten friends and their friends invite ten friends, well, you get the picture! Share this post on your social media. Print it and send it to a friend in the mail. Know a corporate sponsor? They could sponsor children in the name of their business! Please leave a comment if you have any other ideas of how we can make this happen.
If you are on FB, please invite your friends to this event. Click here to go to the invite page.
Thank you for helping me help the children!
