When I was a teen schools provided driver's ed. Today that is a very uncommon class in public schools. Teenager rely on parents to teach them to drive, and often have to pay for expensive driver's ed courses. Now there is another option. I was excited to find out about igottadrive.com. Students young and old can take online practice tests before they go to the DMV for the real thing. Igottadrive.com has very simple to follow instructions on their site and the help menu is on the bottom of the screen. If you get confused just click the bright yellow help button. After we set up the account (which took about two minutes), we entered the course. (See the yellow button that says 'enter course?')
There is a simulator that sends you from Los Angeles to Vermont. That is a lot of over the road training! Not only is your student learning to drive, they will learn the geography of the United States.
Humor is added to the mix to keep kids on their toes while enjoying the learning experience.
As a homeschooling parent, I like that the website includes quotes from famous people like Thoreaux. There are other interesting tidbits throughout the site as well. Here is one example.
After five or ten minutes of learning, quiz question come up to make sure the student is 'getting it.' They are not all monotanous multiple choice questions. Fill in the blank is another type of quiz igottadrive.com uses. If the answer is correct, the answer lights up in green. If incorrect, it stays blue.
By the end of the course igottadrive.com students will be able to pass their driver's test. They will have simulated behind the wheel experiences, taken a test very similar to the one the DMV gives, learn about new places that they can only visit by driving, follow a map, and much more.
