Heart of a Philanthropist's Take
Persecuted is about a pastor who is a recovered womanizing alcoholic partier who left home at the age of 16. He sees the light and changes his life after his first marriage fails. He loves his ministry work so much that it leaves little time for his family. His good friends, Senator Donald Harrison, wants to push through his Faith and Fairness act. Harrison needed Luther for the act to pass, but John Luther was against the Faith and Fairness Act. This proved to be a problem to Harrison. (This act was not completely described in the book, but what I got from the story is that the government would know everything anyone who is acting in a religious manner was doing, saying, or reading.)
Harrison hired the man in the grey suit and a few others to set up John Luther for a fall. The unscrupulous characters make it look like John Luther was with a prostitute and then killed her. John Luther escapes (what they wanted) and the story is leaked to the media. John Luther has to stay on the run and prove his innocence. How do you prove your innocence when the media already has you marked as a guilty man and the government is the one setting you up? Read the book to find out!
Murder, mayhem, scandal, conspiracy... it's all in Persecuted. Persecuted was easy to read, a real page turner. When it was over, I was hoping for more- not that the story ended poorly, I just didn't want it to end. I am looking forward to the movie and to the sequel.

About the book:
The Question Is Not IF Attempts Will Be Made to Limit Religious Freedoms, But When
John Luther, simply wants to share the Gospel and enjoy a quiet life with his family. He never asked to be at the center of a political controversy, but an ill wind has been blowing through the halls of Congress, and supporters of a new religious-equality bill see Luther's endorsement as critical. When Luther refuses to lend his support, he unknowingly sets in motion an explosive plan bent on destroying his reputation and undermining everything for which he stands. His once-normal life is turned upside down as he becomes a fugitive left with only one dangerous option--putting everything he holds most dear at risk while he fights to expose the truth. It is a mission that brings him face-to-face with the coming storm of persecution that could threaten the very fabric of our nation's freedoms.
